Top Tips For Finding The Perfect Prom Dress

With Barbie's Beauty Bits

Choosing a prom dress isn’t a decision that you should rush. It’s important to look closely at a wide range of prom dresses in 2023 (whether you’re shopping online or in person) to find the perfect one.

Although dress shopping is one of the most exciting parts of prom day preparation, it’s also one of the most stressful aspects of your decision-making as it is more than just finding a dress that fits.

We want to try and relieve some of your stress so you can enjoy your prom experience as much as possible. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of top considerations to take when finding the perfect prom dress.

How To Choose The Length Of A Prom Dress
Before you start shopping there are a few things you need to consider. The first decision to make is whether you want a long or short dress. This will significantly narrow your search, making the process quicker and less stressful to find a dress.

Longer dresses look elegant and classy and ideal if your prom is during the colder months. A shorter dress can look more playful and fun but still has a touch of elegance.

There’s no right or wrong answer, and we recommend looking at a number of short and long options to see which looks the best on you and ultimately reflects your personality!

Prom Dress Color
Next, it’s time to consider the color of your prom dress. Do you want a classic white or pale pink? Would you prefer wearing a dress that is a more vibrant color?

Try on dresses of a few colors to narrow your choice and see which suits your dress style. Consider which shoes and accessories you plan on wearing to your prom, too, as they must match your dress.

Your Body Shape
Everybody is different, and we all have unique body shapes and sizes. Regardless of your body type, you can still find the right prom dress that accentuates your curves and cinches your waist.

Wearing a corset-style dress is a good choice if you have a natural hourglass figure with wider hips and shoulders and a smaller waist. If you’ve got a ‘pear-shaped body, drawing attention to the shoulder area will accentuate your figure perfectly.

Comfort Of Your Prom Dress
As important as it is to consider your body type, you should always prioritize comfort. Your prom night should be enjoyable and memorable; you won’t want to worry about your dress when celebrating with your classmates.

This is where choosing a dress that feels great is important. You should also keep in mind how much cleavage you want to have on show (if any) and whether you’re comfortable having your shoulders out on show. You can add a shawl over your dress if you'd rather stay covered.

The same applies to your shoes too. Make sure your heels or flats are wearable for at least a few hours without rubbing your feet too much. Otherwise, you might kick your shoes off and dance in your bare feet!

You can test the comfort of your shoes by wearing them around the house for a few hours each day for a week after purchasing them. If they feel comfortable, you are on your way to looking like a million dollars!
