How To Properly Use A Bobby Pin, by Barbie's Beauty Bits

I’ve always been envious every time I go to the hair salon and see these girls leave with wonderful hair, whether a full up-do, or partial, which is all created by good ole bobby pins.  Yes, bobby pins; they've been around forever and a day! Therefore, I decided to ask my stylist, how you can do that with just bobby pins; they never seem to work for me.  Well, what she told me was so simple, and yet myself, and according to her most women she has dealt with, have been using them incorrectly.

The correct way to use a bobby pin is to insert it into your hair with the wavy side down.  What, that is all it took?  Why didn’t I not know this; I mean I have a plethora of information, but yet this. I had no clue!  According to my stylist, the wavy side is designed so it will grab your hair and situate it properly.  The flat side, which because it was longer, I always thought was to go down, pushes the hair into the groove, holding it in place. So there, you have it, simple yet powerful.

Some Other Bits I Learned:

  • When used properly they are great for adding volume to your hair.
  • Make sure to use pins that are close to the color of your hair.
  • Don’t cheap out when purchasing your bobby pins, especially if you have long hair, buy thicker ones. Otherwise, they can fall out.
  • X marks the spot for a stronger hold. What does this mean? Well, when inserting the pins, you want to try to cross them over each other, creating an x for extra hold.

Lastly, I wondered why we call these hair pins, bobby pins.  Well according to Fun Trivia, in the 1920’s it became trendy for women to cut their hair short and set it tightly against the head in a wavy pattern called bobbed hair. By the end of the decade, 90% of North American women adopted this new fashion trend, and the number of beauty salons in the United States had increased from 5,000 to 23,000 to keep up with demand. Until then, most people cut and set their hair at home. The bobby pin, a small flexible metal clip to keep bobbed hair in place, was invented in the early 1920s. Bobby pins were so inexpensive that everyone could afford to buy them. They were tinted to match one's hair color so that they could be camouflaged within the hairstyle.

So hair there you go, simple yet a world of possibilities!

Proper Mascara Care:

Another Lashing Out Series

Proper-mascara-care-barbies-beauty-bits

BB Bit 1: When applying your mascara, it is important that you do not pump your mascara wand up and down in the bottle as it as it can create bacteria.  Instead, roll the tube back and forth, with lid closed between your hands, creating heat; this will soften the mascara, adding to easier application.

BB Bit 2: How long should you keep your mascara?  This all depends on how often you use it, but I say if you haven’t used most of your mascara by three months, toss it.   Furthermore, if it gets really dried out or worse yet stinks, get rid of it!  Bad mascara can damage your eye's lashes, and even cause serious irritation to your eyes.

BB Bit 3: How to revive dried-out mascara.  First, you need to make sure it does not fall into one of the bits mentioned in BB Bit 2.  If all is good to go, then you can add some bits of eye drops to your mascara to loosen it up, and viola it applies like new!

Love is in the air, and Valentine’s Day will soon to be here. So what better time to see what valentine inspired items and or collections, cupid has been shooting his arrows at!  I figured I’d start in the mall as there was this new store that just opened, LUSH. For those of you who may not be familiar with this store, Lush sells fresh handmade cosmetics.

I ended up making Lush my last stop as it was crazy busy, and I figured if I waited until midday it would slow down.  Well, I was wrong; I could barely get in the place to move around, so I decided to look for some Too Faced products instead, and make Lush an online adventure.    Below are some of the great items from these collections that I’m crushing.

The Kiss: For Pink Sweet Smooches.

I really like this product; with its mandarin and almond flavor, I could eat it!  And of course being a Lush product, this vegan lip gloss is free of preservatives.  It keeps your lips kissably soft, with a subtle pink hue!

Tender is the Night:
I didn’t get to try this product yet, but this would something great for a memorable valentine’s massage.  According to Lushes website, this heart-shaped  bar is the world's first soft-centered massage bar. This soft centre makes your massage an unforgettable, sensual experience, and the scent is intoxicating, with a beautiful scent of jasmine, ylang and vanilla.

So now that you are entrenched with that breathtaking scent, and your lips are lushly editable, why not try to make your significant other blush this Valentine’s Day too, with some products from Too Faced.

Too Faced has a really cute heart blush trio compact; Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush, this is great for all skin colors as it combines into the perfect shade. Plus it’s so cute and it is hydrating for the skin, making it an even better find!

After all of this, cupid then proceeded to shoot his arrows into the makeup department, trying to find that perfect makeup match for valentines!   And Viola…

Boudoir Eyes, By Too Faced:
With this collection, you are now ready for the boudoir, or you could say voulez-vous coucher avec moi to your love? This Too Faced kit is going to allow you to be in satin sheets, in the buff, with fuzzy hand cuffs, Oh, and you can even have a lap dance! If it seems like we’re being a little risqué, well we are not trying to be fresh, as these are just some of the names of the eye shadow colors.  These shadows are going to give you the sultry, smokey eye look; he'll love!
