How To Hide Face Discoloration

By Coloring Me Pretty...

A Color Correcting Primer Guide to a Flawless Face

How to Hide Face Discoloration & blemishes with color correcting primer, by Barbie's Beauty Bits

Do you have some skin discoloration? Had a late night, and look tired? Need to cover a blemish, like yesterday? Well, today I’m going to share with you some of my beauty must dos, which is to use a color correcting primer.

These corrective primers are a gift from the makeup gods.  Using them in your makeup routine allows you to create a perfect canvass to apply your foundation and other makeup, while hiding those imperfections.

So what exactly is a color correcting primer?

  • They are formulated to wear under your foundation.
  • You should use them on those areas that need a little extra help.
  • They diffuse light to help minimize flaws.
  • Evens out any skin discoloration, so makeup glides on evenly.
  • Helps increase foundation longevity.

Additionally, these correctors come in many different textures including, powders, creams, and liquids; that can be worn by all women.  There is also a variety of colors to choose from, depending on what you need to perfect. Below, I will “cover” the different colors and what their functions are!

Mint Green:  This color is great on acne and rosacea, and helps tone down the appearance of red or ruddy skin. I love Shiseido the makeup stick foundation control color.

Yellow: This color is best for camouflaging bluish (blue & purple) undertones, like the dark circles under the eye.

Pink: This color helps balance out sallow or yellow skin. It also is great at hiding signs of fatigue.

What else you need to know:
  1. While there are a few other colors out there, the three I have listed above help adjust, blend, brighten and balance your skin.  Thus, covering a wide range of complexion concerns.
  2.  It is important to use small amounts at first to see what works and exactly how much you need to get the desired look.
  3. Your goal is to blend.  You don't want any prominent areas that have a different skin tone because of these.
  4. Always, start with a clear primer first, as this will help to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines, while preventing false wrinkles, that can be caused if you apply any makeup to a naked face.  These clear primers create the perfect base for foundation application.

So there you have it, your secret weapon to making those imperfection magically disappear!

How To Apply Concealer

How To Apply Concealer, By Barbie's Beauty Bits

When trying to cover the dark circles under your eyes, are you using your concealer correctly? Well, you may think you are, but I know a lot of women who are not doing this the correct way. So, today, I am going to share with you ten tips to bag those under eye circles!

When properly applied, concealer can work wonders, as well as enhancing your beauty.  On the same token, when used incorrectly, it can do the opposite of what you were trying to do.  Your goal is to hide or cover an imperfection, AKA, conceal!

So How To:
  1. Prep your face first, by applying a primer.  Otherwise, your concealer will sit in your wrinkles, dried skin, etc., and looked caked on. Hence, highlighting the area you are trying to hide.
  2. Purchase a concealer that matches your skin tone.  You can test this on the backside of your hand.  If the color is too dark, it will make your dark circles appear darker. Don’t go too light either or it will up drawing attention to this area.  One shade lighter is best.
  3. Pick a light reflecting concealer for the under the eye area or a green color if you have some redness as well.
  4. Use a creamy concealer under the eye area for a more natural result.
  5. Apply in a triangle, do not apply in circles, as it needs to extend below the dark area. The triangle approach works, trust me! It brightens your look, allowing you to lighten the most shaded area, giving you an instant lift appearance.  It also will eliminate that caked on look that emphasizes a defined line; the goal is to have it disappear.
  6. Use a makeup brush or sponge applying a thin layer, so it blends into the skin. HOWEVER, I would do this with a stippling approach. Otherwise, you’ll end up removing it.
  7. Starting at the inner corner, near the nose and extend outwards in a v to the cheek area and back up to the outer area of the eye. (see above image for this approach)
  8. Blend well so there is not a distinct change in tone between the concealer and your skin.
  9. You may need to apply an additional layer of coverage, but be careful not to overdo it.  You can create false wrinkles (yuk, who wants those), and or show your other imperfections. The goal is to have a flawless look, so don’t rush.
  10. Finish by applying your foundation where needed, hence creating a smooth skin tone and canvas so to speak, for the rest of your makeup.

So there you have it, my top 10 tips on how to apply concealer.  Now, you can have an instant lift, without having to go to the plastic surgeon! Until next time lovelies.
